BEST BETS: March 4 to 10, 2011

Christian pop stars in town

Christian pop singers Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith perform at the Auditorium Theatre at 7 p.m. Friday. On this tour, they start the show on stage together and end together. In between, each artist has an individual set, although they share occasional moments. Grant, who grew up in Nashville, has roots in country music, as well as Christian and pop. In 1982, she became the first contemporary Christian artist to reach platinum status with her album "Age to Age," which scored a Grammy for Best Pop Gospel Performance. Smith is a three-time Grammy Award winner and has earned 40 Dove Awards. Visit ticketmaster.com.

'Triangle Factory Fire Project'

During the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire on March 25, 1911, 146 people who worked in the Manhattan garment factory died trying to escape the flames. An exit door had been illegally locked, a fire escape collapsed, and firetrucks’ ladders came four stories short of reaching the top of the building. Many workers died leaping to the street. JCC CenterStage presents "The Triangle Factory Fire Project,” a new play by Christopher Piehler, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the fire. Piehler wrote the play using historical documents, such as letters, eyewitness accounts and court transcripts. The play opens Saturday. Visit jccrochester.org for show times.
